GIVE US YOUR OPINION: ON KNEE BRACE PROTECTION By Team-Kixsquest | Fri Sep 26, 2008 at 05:47:38 AM EST by Mary Maillette

Protective gear in racing motocross is extremely important.  Up until now, we've used basic knee pads.  However, we realize that protecting the knee against serious injury in a crash is a priority.

I know many of you use a knee brace and I would love some feedback on what kind you use, why you chose it and if it has worked for you.  I think this is a topic that many of the members and visitors to Kids In Xtreme Sports would find helpful.

WET WEATHER AND A CHALLENGING TRACK AT SPRING CREEK By Team-Kixsquest | Mon Sep 15, 2008 at 10:02:01 AM EST Spring Creek MX Park in Millville, Minnesota hosted it's 2008 Super Series Finale and the 2009 Super Series Opener on Sunday, September 15th.  Wet cool weather made for a challenging track but that just made the racing more intense!

This motocross race was the first opportunity for racers to try out the changes made to the track for the Pro National last month at Spring Creek which included modified whoops, a more technical rhythm section at the back of the track and a bigger Holy Schmit.    Track conditions along with the changes made it a fun but tough challenge for many.

BACK TO SCHOOL HUMOR By Team-Kixsquest | Tue Sep 09, 2008 at 11:56:59 AM EST by Mary Maillette

September means back to school and with that in mind here is a little humor I came across on the subject.  Hope it makes you smile.

A KID'S VIEW ON SCHOOL

A little girl had just finished her first week of school. "I'm wasting my time," she said to her mother.

"I can't read, I can't write - and they won't let me talk!"

THE HOMEWORK SCHEDULE

Here is an explanation of the school homework policy for the average student. Students should not spend more than ninety minutes per night. This time should be budgeted in the following manner if the student desires to achieve moderate to good grades in his/her classes.

15 minutes looking for assignment.

11 minutes calling a friend for the assignment.

23 minutes explaining why the teacher is mean and just does not like children.

8 minutes in the bathroom.

10 minutes getting a snack.

7 minutes checking the TV Guide.

6 minutes telling parents that the teacher never explained the assignment.

10 minutes sitting at the kitchen table waiting for Mom or Dad to do the assignment. Comments >>

You Own "The Power" By Team-Kixsquest | Fri Sep 05, 2008 at 09:24:24 AM EST by Mary Maillette

Is it just me or does it feel like time is not just flying, it's in fifth gear pinned?  Between all the things we have to do and all the things we have to think about and all the things we have to remember, sometimes my brain feels like a four lane express way at rush hour.. way too much congestion!

I've read several books recently that all say the same thing, "The Point of Power is always in the present moment."   That sounds easy, but have you ever tried it?  Have you ever tried to shut your brain off and just concentrate on what you are doing at the moment?  It's nearly impossible!  I'm either thinking about what I've got to do next or I'm thinking about something that happened yesterday or about a phone call I have to make or I'm remembering that I've got to check my email and "Oh, yeah, I've got to email that person".  It's like a never ending cycle in my mind!  But, that's exactly what "the experts" say the problem is.  By not being present every moment, we are giving up our power.

The only thing we can control is the present.  When we are not completely focused on what we are doing in the present moment we can't be giving it 100%.  I've been really trying to live in the present moment myself and I've been talking to my kids about doing it.  Especially, my son who races motocross.  When's he's on that track, he shouldn't be thinking about where he's going to finish in the moto.  He's got to be present on the gate, the start, the first corner, every turn, every jump, every lap until he crosses that finish line.   Only then can he truly tap into his "Point of Power".

So, give it a try.  Stop thinking for a moment.  It's hard, but if you keep practicing, it gets a little easier.  Remember, you own "The Power", now it's time to start using it!
